History
Bessho-Onsen Station opened on 17 June 1921 as Bessho Station, the terminus of the Ueda Onsen Electric Tramway's Kawanishi Line, in present-day Ueda, Nagano. It was renamed Shinano-Bessho in 1924 and Bessho-Onsen in 1930. The current station building dates from a 1950 reconstruction. Successive mergers placed it under Ueda-Maruko Electric Railway in 1943, Ueda Kōtsū in 1969, and the current Ueda Electric Railway in 2005. Station numbering took effect in August 2016, with the station assigned BE15. In 2017 the building received Ueda's annual urban-landscape award.

Notes
From 2006 until business operations were transferred in 2022, the station was staffed by two women from the local tourism association who served as "sightseeing stationmasters" wearing traditional kimono uniforms.
