History
Nishi-Matsuida Station opened on 1 April 1965 on the Shin'etsu Main Line in what is today the city of Annaka, Gunma Prefecture. It was created as a replacement halt after the 15 July 1962 electrification of the Takasaki - Yokokawa section, when the original Matsuida Station was relocated about two kilometres towards Takasaki away from the town centre. Built under Japanese National Railways, the station became unstaffed on 21 June 1985 and was transferred to JR East at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, regaining staff that same day. Suica IC-card acceptance began on 14 March 2009, and the station was un-staffed again on 1 October 2018.

Notes
The Nakasendo's Matsuida post-town once supported one of Japan's only two surviving silk-reeling mills, Usui Seishi, whose plant still stands a short walk from the station.
