History

Hosorogi Station is in the city of Awara in Fukui Prefecture and is operated by Hapi-Line Fukui on its Hapi-Line Fukui Line, 75.5 kilometres from the Tsuruga terminus. It opened on 20 September 1897 with the government-railway extension between Fukui and Komatsu. The 1948 Fukui earthquake destroyed the station building, which was rebuilt by December of the same year. Freight handling ended in 1961 and the station became unattended in March 1971. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR West, ICOCA acceptance began on 15 September 2018, and the station was transferred to the newly formed Hapi-Line Fukui on 16 March 2024 when the Hokuriku Shinkansen reached Tsuruga.

Notes

The approach chimes on the platforms differ by direction: track 1 plays the folk song "Mura no kajiya," while track 2 plays Beethoven's "Für Elise."
