History

Ōniwa Station opened on 2 October 1921 as a stop on the Tsukama Railway, the predecessor of today's Kamikōchi Line, located in what is now Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture. The operating company was renamed to Tsukama Electric Railway in 1922 and to Matsumoto Electric Railway in 1932 before the line passed to Alpico Kōtsū on 1 April 2011. The single ground-level side platform sits 2.6 kilometres from the line's terminus at Matsumoto. Station staff were withdrawn in February 2010, and the original building was later dismantled by 2021 and replaced with barrier-free ramps and a cycle park.

Notes

After the 2021 typhoon damage to the Tagawa bridge, the substitute bus stop for this station was beside a now-closed simple post office to the north.
