History

Morinji-mae Station opened on 1927-04-01 as a station on the Tōbu Isesaki Line. At the 2006-03-18 timetable revision, the existing Junkyū services were renamed Section Express and their frequency cut sharply; daytime services were broken at Kuki, leaving daytime hours when no train ran through to Asakusa from this station, and Morinji-mae was added as a stop for the new Section Junkyū service. Station numbering as TI 09 was introduced on 2012-03-17, in line with other Tōbu stations, and departure melodies entered service on 2013-03-26. The station building stands on the Asakusa-bound platform, and the two platforms are linked by a footbridge.

Notes

Morinji, the temple that gives the station its name, is known for the legend of the magical Bunbuku Chagama tea kettle; the station is also the nearest stop to the Tōbu Treasure Garden (formerly Yacho-no-Mori To~bu), and during the spring tourist season selected Ryōmō limited-express trains used to make additional stops here.
