History

Shimonii Station opened on 2 October 1921 as a stop on the Tsukama Railway in what is now Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, on the line that became today's Kamikōchi Line. The operating company changed names several times before settling under Alpico Kōtsū on 1 April 2011. The wooden, log-cabin style station building was rebuilt in September 1997. The single side platform sits 4.4 kilometres from the line's terminus at Matsumoto Station, and although the building once hosted limited morning ticket sales the station has been functionally unstaffed since 2024.

Notes

The unused ticket office is occasionally opened as a community lending library called Shimonii Bunko.
