History
Tobanoe Station opened on 15 August 1926 as a stop on the Jōsō Railroad in what is now the city of Shimotsuma, Ibaraki Prefecture, and passed to the Kantō Railway through a 1965 merger. The original wooden building, dating from the line's 1926 opening, became a frequent filming location and was the basis for the rebuilt 2008 station, which reused some of the original materials. Staffing was reduced to unattended in 1999. The current single-track configuration places the station 41.0 kilometres from the line's starting point at Toride, where two opposed side platforms still survive on the otherwise streamlined line.
