History
Shinshimashima Station, on the Alpico Kōtsū Kamikōchi Line in Matsumoto, Nagano, opened as Akamatsu Station and was renamed to its present name on 1 October 1966 when the bus terminal for the Kamikōchi area was relocated here from Shimashima. After Typhoon 10 damaged the line on 28 September 1983, services beyond Shinshimashima to Shimashima were suspended and then formally abolished on 1 January 1985, leaving this station as the line's terminus. The current station building was completed in 2002. The station has one dead-headed island platform serving two tracks.
