History

Koumi Station opened on 11 March 1919 as the southern terminus of the Saku Railway's extension from Haguroshita, handling both passenger and freight traffic. On 27 December 1932 the Ministry of Railways extended the Koumi Line south to Saku-Uminokuchi, and the Saku Railway was nationalised in September 1934, with the station folded into the Koumi North Line. Freight ended in 1982 and parcel handling in 1984. The station was rebuilt in 1986 and passed to JR East with the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987. A Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office opened in 1991 and closed in September 2018; the station was downgraded to simplified-commission operation in April 2023.

Notes

Although it shares the reading "Koumi", the station's name is written 小海, whereas a homophonous station Kōmi (神海) exists on the Tarumi Railway's Tarumi Line in Gifu Prefecture.
