History

Shinano-Kawashima Station opened on 1 April 1955 in what is today the town of Tatsuno, Kamiina District, Nagano Prefecture. It is operated by JR East and lies on the old route of the Chūō Main Line, specifically the Okaya to Shiojiri branch retained when the line was rerouted, 13.8 kilometres from the branching point at Okaya Station. The station passed to JR East with the JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987. It consists of a single ground-level side platform serving bi-directional traffic, with only a shelter and no station building, and has been unstaffed since opening.

Notes

In fiscal 2011 the station averaged just 19 boarding passengers per day, making it the least-used station on the entire Chūō Main Line.
