History

Wakaba Station opened on 2 April 1979 to serve the new Wakabadai housing estate built by the Japan Housing Corporation on the border between Sakado and Tsurugashima cities. The original east exit was supplemented by a west exit and forecourt on 14 March 2004. Following the 16 March 2013 timetable revision, Wakaba became a Rapid-service stop, and on 18 March 2023 it was upgraded to a Rapid Express stop after the Rapid category was abolished; the same revision opened through-running via the Tōkyū Shin-Yokohama Line and Sōtetsu lines to Shin-Yokohama and Shōnandai. Station numbering was added on 17 March 2012, designating Wakaba as TJ 25.

Notes

Wakaba was originally going to be named "Wakabadai", after the housing estate it was built to serve, but the planners dropped the suffix when they realised Keiō already had a Wakabadai station on its Sagamihara Line.
