History
Kohoku Station opened on 1 April 1901 as part of the original Narita Railway (Naritekisha) extension between Narita and Abiko, handling both passenger and freight traffic. The line was nationalised on 1 September 1920, becoming part of the Japanese Government Railways and later the JNR. Scheduled freight ceased on 1 November 1962, and the Abiko-Narita section was electrified in October 1973. Privatisation in April 1987 transferred operations to JR East. The station building has since been rebuilt and modernised, with Suica enabled in November 2001 and elevators added in 2007–2008. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 11 March 2024.

Notes
Despite the name ("north of the lake"), no body of water officially named a "lake" lies near the station — the reference is to Teganuma Marsh, which sits to its south.
