History
Shim-Misato Station opened on 14 March 1985 in Misato, Saitama, as a Musashino Line stop on the line's eastward extension. The new station straddled the former Musashino Marshalling Yard, which had ceased operations in 1984 and was formally closed in 1986. At opening, its two opposed platforms stood about 360 metres apart on either side of the yard — earning a Guinness World Record for the most widely separated platforms in the world. Each side had its own gate, connected by a central footbridge. JR East inherited operations on 1 April 1987, and on 20 March 1999 the two platforms were unified onto the western (Nishi-Funabashi-bound) side under a new bridged station building.
