History

Nagareyama Station opened on 14 March 1916 as the terminus of the Ryūtetsu Nagareyama Line in Nagareyama, Chiba. The original wooden station building, dating from the line's construction in 1916, was substantially rebuilt on 25 December 1937 and again extended in December 1979 along with the platform. The station was added to the list of 100 Selected Railway Stations of the Kantō Region in 1998, recognised by the regional transport authority as a station with a rural character despite its proximity to Tokyo. Ridership has dropped sharply since the parallel Tsukuba Express opened nearby in 2005, drawing local commuters away.

Notes

Until 1969, a freight branch called the Manjō Line connected the station to the Kikkoman soy-sauce factory; built in 1929, it was decommissioned forty years later.
