History

Musashi-Urawa Station opened on 30 September 1985 in Minami-ku, Saitama, as a junction stop served by both the orbital Musashino Line and the new Saikyō Line built alongside the Tōhoku Shinkansen viaduct. Operated by JR East, it lies 16.1 kilometres from Ikebukuro on the Saikyō Line and 29.8 kilometres from Fuchūhommachi on the Musashino Line. The station has two elevated opposed side platforms for the Musashino Line and two elevated island platforms serving four tracks for the Saikyō Line, with the station building underneath. A Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office is provided. The line-identification colour for the Saikyō Line platforms is cherry blossom.

The Lotte Urawa Factory and Lotte Urawa Baseball Ground sit just east of the station, alongside the Tokyo Yakult Swallows' Toda Baseball Ground.
