History

Kita-Matsudo Station opened on 1 May 1952 as Matsudo Keibajōmae Station (松戸競輪場前駅), an Japanese National Railways temporary station serving the adjoining Matsudo Velodrome on race days only. It was elevated to permanent status on 25 December 1958. The station passed to JR East on 1 April 1987 at the privatisation of the JNR. Located in Matsudo, Chiba and 17.8 km from Nippori on the Jōban Line, it is served only by all-station 'Local' trains running on the slow tracks. The 2024 daily ridership of about 20,000 boarding passengers reflects its function as a commuter stop for the surrounding residential district and the Matsudo Velodrome — the latter still operates today.

Notes

Kita-Matsudo began life as a race-day-only temporary halt for the Matsudo Velodrome (松戸競輪場), and only became a permanent station in December 1958 — more than six years after first opening.
