History

Kōkū-kōen Station opened on 28 May 1987 on the Seibu Shinjuku Line in Namiki 2-chōme, Tokorozawa, Saitama. It is the newest station on the Shinjuku Line and the second-newest in the entire Seibu network, after Nerima-Takanodai on the Ikebukuro Line. The three-storey station building was designed to evoke a Henri Farman III biplane — the first officially powered aircraft to fly in Japan — with a clock above the entrance standing in for the propeller. The station was selected as one of the Top 100 Train Stations of the Kantō Region in 1998. Station numbering was assigned in fiscal 2012 (SS23). All Shinjuku Line services except Koedo limited expresses and Commuter Expresses call here.

Notes

An ANK YS-11 turboprop airliner (registration JA8732) is permanently displayed in front of the station's east exit, with interior tours opened to the public several times a year.
