History

Higashi-Tokorozawa Station opened on 1 April 1973 as a JNR stop on the new Musashino Line, in Tokorozawa, Saitama. It was one of twelve stations nationwide where automatic ticket gates were trialled at opening. The station was originally planned to be 'Shin-Tokorozawa', but because the Seibu Shinjuku Line already had a station of that name, the planning-stage placeholder 'Higashi-Tokorozawa' was retained. It became part of JR East at privatisation on 1 April 1987, and Suica fares were enabled on 18 November 2001. To the east lies the Higashi-Tokorozawa Depot, with twenty storage tracks. The platforms sit one level below grade with the concourse above. It is the only JR station in Tokorozawa.

Notes

The station's name was a planning-stage placeholder retained as the official name only because the Seibu Shinjuku Line had already taken the intended title, 'Shin-Tokorozawa'.
