History

Umejima Station opened on 1 October 1924 on the Tōbu Isesaki Line, the corridor now branded the Tōbu Skytree Line. The platforms were raised onto a viaduct in March 1968; the right-of-way was so narrow that the up and down platforms had to be staggered in line along the track rather than placed opposite each other, with the up platform towards Kita-Senju and the down platform towards Nishi-Arai. Accessibility was upgraded in 1995–96, with a down-platform escalator entering service on 10 October 1995, an up-platform escalator on 22 March 1996 and a lift on 26 April 1996. Departure-melody chimes began on 15 March 2012, the station number TS 12 was assigned two days later, and platform-edge doors entered service on 11 November 2024.

Notes

Because of a narrow strip of land available for the elevated structure, Umejima's two platforms sit end-to-end rather than face-to-face, so the only stairs, lift and escalators are at the centre — passengers tend to cluster in the last car of each train.
