History

Shiishiba Station opened on 11 March 1933 as a general goods-and-passenger station on the Japanese Government Railways Narita Line in the city of Chōshi, Chiba Prefecture, lying 71.0 kilometres from the line's terminus at Sakura. Scheduled freight handling was withdrawn on 1 October 1962, parcel handling ended on 26 September 1970, and the station has been unattended since 15 March 1974. The facility was inherited by JR East at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, the station building was rebuilt in January 2007, and Suica IC card service began on 14 March 2009, when the station was incorporated into the Tokyo metropolitan suburban zone.

Notes

The original wooden station building's ticket office was simply boarded over when the station was destaffed in 1974 and stood that way for more than thirty years until the 2007 rebuild replaced everything with a U-shaped open shelter.
