History

Yagiri Station opened on 31 March 1991 on the Hokuso Line in Matsudo, Chiba, in a deep tunnel known as Kuriyama Tunnel that runs 1,827 m beneath ground level. The working name during construction had been Kuriyama, but the modern station was given the local placename Yagiri (the more common reading; the older indigenous reading is Yakiri). The station has two island platforms serving four tracks for express overtake and turnback operations. A crossover at the Inba-Nihon-Idai end allows shuttle services to terminate here. Station numbering HS02 was applied on 17 July 2010. A platform departure melody using the popular folk song Yagiri no Watashi was introduced on 31 March 2017.

Notes

The platform departure melody is a chorus of Yagiri no Watashi, even though the actual Edogawa ferry crossing the song refers to is some distance away from the station.
