History

Edogawa Station opened on 3 November 1912 as Ichikawa Station, the temporary terminus of the Keisei first-phase line built east from Oshiage. Because construction of the Edogawa river bridge was running late, the original platform sat on the riverbed and was connected to Ichikawa on the opposite bank by chartered traditional ferry boats. After the bridge was completed, the station moved onto the embankment on 30 August 1914 and was renamed Edogawa. A 1980 replacement of the river bridge shifted the stop slightly downstream. Station numbering across the Keisei network on 17 June 2010 designated this stop KS12.

Notes

From the platform one can look across the river and see the next stop, Kōnodai, on the opposite bank — and during the August Edogawa Fireworks Festival both stations serve as quieter alternatives to the more crowded Shinozaki and Motoyawata.
