History
Kami-Igusa Station opened on 16 April 1927 on what is now the Seibu Shinjuku Line, in Suginami Ward, Tokyo — the northernmost station within the ward. A new south station building entered service on 5 March 1987, automatic ticket gates arrived at the south entrance on 24 May 1993 and at the north entrance about a year later. On 23 March 2008 the station was rebranded around Mobile Suit Gundam: a bronze monument of the title robot was erected outside the south exit, and the departure melody was changed to the show's theme song, in tribute to nearby anime studio Sunrise. The station was numbered SS12 in fiscal 2012.

Notes
The platform has no inside-the-gates footbridge linking the two sides, so passengers who arrive at the wrong platform must exit through the ticket gates to switch.
