History

Nishi-Ashikajima Station opened on 1 March 1970 in Chōshi, Chiba Prefecture, as a stop on the privately operated Chōshi Electric Railway Line, 3.2 km from the line's western terminus at Chōshi. It was added at the request of residents in the newly developed residential district, and remains the newest station on the line. The station has a single side platform serving one track and is unstaffed, with a small open shelter rather than a full station building, no toilet, and a vending machine for drinks. The platform was extended on the Chōshi side in December 2009 to accommodate the line's 2000-series and 2500-series two-car trains.

Notes

The station has been through more than half a dozen naming-rights sponsors since 2015, including an individual person, a dental clinic and a chemistry firm — most of whom hold the rights for only a year or two before the name changes again.
