History
Mejiro Station opened on 16 March 1885 on the Nippon Railway's first inland line, sited at the foot of Kiyoto-dō (today's Mejiro-dōri) in response to local petitions. The line was nationalised under the 1906 Railway Nationalization Act and incorporated into the Yamanote Line in 1909. A 1922 rebuild made Mejiro the first elevated bridge-style (kyōjō) station building in Japan. Further rebuilds followed in 1928 and 1962, and the current station building opened on 29 July 2000. The stop passed to JR East at privatisation on 1 April 1987, Suica acceptance began in November 2001, and station numbering assigned JY 14 in 2016. In June 2010, Mejiro received Tokyo's first female JR station manager.

Notes
Mejiro is one of only two Yamanote Line stations (along with Shin-Ōkubo) that offer no transfer to any other rail line.
