History
Nishi-Waseda Station opened on 14 June 2008 with the inauguration of Tokyo Metro's Fukutoshin Line between Ikebukuro and Shibuya. The platforms sit roughly 30 m below ground beneath Meiji-dōri near the Suwa-dōri intersection in Toyama 3-chōme, Shinjuku — the depth was set to clear the Tōzai Line, the Kanda River and existing underground utilities. The station opened equipped with platform-edge doors on both tracks; the Shibuya-bound platform also has a movable step. One of the four street exits opens directly into Waseda University's Nishi-Waseda Campus (its former Ōkubo Campus, home to the schools of science and engineering). Departure jingles by Hiroshi Shiozuka and Naoya Fukushima have been in use since opening day.

Notes
When the campus-direct entrance opened in June 2008, Waseda University renamed its old Nishi-Waseda Campus (a liberal-arts site) to "Waseda Campus" on 1 April 2008 and then re-branded the Ōkubo Campus that the station actually serves as "Nishi-Waseda Campus" on 1 April 2009, after a year-long buffer period to avoid disorienting visitors.
