History

Naka-okachimachi Station opened on 28 March 1961 as a station on the Teito Rapid Transit Authority (TRTA) Hibiya Line in Ueno, Taitō, Tokyo. At opening, only the southbound (Naka-Meguro-bound) platform was in use, with trains using a north-side crossover to terminate at the station. Station facilities were inherited by Tokyo Metro on 1 April 2004 following the privatization of the TRTA. Connection passageways to the Toei Oedo Line Ueno-okachimachi Station and Tokyo Metro Ginza Line Ueno-hirokoji Station opened on 12 December 2000. On 16 March 2009 an additional underground passage opened connecting Naka-okachimachi, Ueno-hirokoji, and Ueno-okachimachi stations to Keisei Ueno and JR Ueno. Departure melodies were introduced on 7 February 2020, and a new central ticket gate with the No. 5 exit opened on 28 November 2020.

Notes

Naka-okachimachi has no formal interchange status with the Ginza Line, Oedo Line, or JR lines that share the Okachimachi/Ueno cluster, but it is connected to all of them via fare-paid and free underground passages — including a long passage opened in 2009 that links the station to Keisei Ueno Station.
