History

Minami-asagaya Station (M 02) is a Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line station in Asagaya-Minami 1-chōme, Suginami, Tokyo. It opened on 1 November 1961 as a Teito Rapid Transit Authority (Eidan) Ogikubo Line station — originally the line's western terminus — and became an intermediate station on 23 January 1962 when the line was extended one stop to Ogikubo. The Ogikubo Line was renamed the Marunouchi Line on 1 April 1972, and the station passed to Tokyo Metro on 1 April 2004 when Eidan was privatised. Two opposed side platforms beneath the Ōme Kaidō; the narrow platforms and few ticket gates make the Ikebukuro-bound B Line crowded during morning rush hour and the Ogikubo-bound A Line crowded in the evenings.

Notes

The station's wider neighbourhood is the administrative heart of Suginami Ward — the ward office, police station, fire station, tax office and main library all cluster around it, despite the area being just a 10-minute walk south of the larger JR Asagaya Station.
