History

Iijima Station, located in the town of Iijima in Nagano Prefecture's Kamiina District, opened on 11 February 1918 on what is today the Iida Line, approximately 158 kilometres along the line from its starting point at Toyohashi. When Japanese National Railways was broken up and privatised on 1 April 1987, the station passed to Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central), under whose operation it remains. The station has two opposed ground-level side platforms joined by a level crossing and primarily serves the surrounding town centre, including the town hall, post office, and local schools along National Route 153.
