History

Tobitakyu Station opened on 1 September 1916 as a Keio Electric Tramway stop in Chofu, Tokyo. The line was absorbed by Tokyu (Daito-kyu) during the 1944 wartime consolidation, and Keio Teito Electric Railway split off again in 1948. Anticipating the 10 March 2001 opening of Tokyo Stadium (now Ajinomoto Stadium), Keio rebuilt the station into a three-track, two-platform layout on 5 March 2001 and inaugurated an overpass station building on 7 March 2001. The sub-name "Ajinomoto Stadium-mae" was added at opening and ridership swells dramatically on match days. Tobitakyu became a Rapid stop with the 22 February 2013 timetable change, and a 2018 update set the train-approach melody to FC Tokyo supporter songs.

Notes

On FC Tokyo and Tokyo Verdy match days, additional Limited Express, Semi Express, and Express services make special stops at Tobitakyu, which would otherwise be skipped by these categories.
