History

Mogusaen Station opened on 24 March 1925 as Mogusa Station on the Tama-nan Electric Railway, a predecessor of today's Keio Corporation. It became part of Keio Electric Tramway through the 1 December 1926 merger and was renamed Mogusaen on 1 May 1937 after the nearby Mogusaen garden. The station passed through Tokyu (Daito-kyu) during the 1944 wartime consolidation and returned to Keio Teito Electric Railway on 1 June 1948. An overpass station building, replacing the previous underground concourse, entered service in stages from 28 March 2010 and was completed on 31 October 2010, finally bringing barrier-free access to a station whose underground arrangement had previously made lift retrofits impractical.

Notes

Mogusaen is the model for the fictional Mukaihara Station in Studio Ghibli's 1995 film Whisper of the Heart, the nearest station to protagonist Shizuku Tsukishima's home.
