History
Nishi-Chofu Station opened on 1 September 1916 as Kami-Ishihara, a Keio Electric Tramway stop in Chofu, Tokyo. The line passed to Tokyu (Daito-kyu) during the 1944 wartime consolidation, and Keio Teito Electric Railway split off on 1 June 1948. The station was renamed Nishi-Chofu on 1 June 1959. An overpass station building entered provisional service on 16 January 2011, replacing the original arrangement with a ticket office on the up-platform. The station became a Rapid stop with the 22 February 2013 timetable revision. The north-side bus loop opened on 17 April 2017, allowing Keio bus services to call there. From 26 March 2021 the train-approach melody became the main theme of NHK's Taiga drama Shinsengumi!, by Takayuki Hattori.

Notes
Nishi-Chofu sits at the heart of Kami-Ishihara, the birthplace of Shinsengumi commander Kondo Isami; the area markets itself as "Kondo Isami's birthplace Kami-Ishihara" and hosts a yearly festival in his memory.
