History

Shibaura-futō Station opened on 1 November 1995 as stop U-05 on the Yurikamome automated transit line in Minato, Tokyo, between Hinode and the line's crossing of the Rainbow Bridge toward Odaiba. Built on reclaimed land originally laid down during the second and third phases of the Sumida River Estuary Improvement Works, the elevated island platform sits directly beneath the Metropolitan Expressway Route 11 Daiba viaduct. Before the line opened, the warehouse-and-office district around the platform was a roughly 20-minute walk from the nearest heavy-rail stop at JR Tamachi or Toei Mita, so its arrival transformed local access.

Notes

Shibaura-futō is the last station on the Shimbashi side before the line crosses the Rainbow Bridge, so it is the nearest station for anyone walking across via the Rainbow Promenade footpath.
