History
Shimoyui Station opened on 21 March 1928 on the Takayama Main Line, in what is now the town of Shirakawa in Kamo District, Gifu Prefecture. Located 61.7 kilometres from the line's starting point at Gifu, the station consists of two ground-level side platforms linked by a footbridge and has no on-site staff. Operation passed from Japanese National Railways to JR Central at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR. The surrounding area lies along the Hida River and is served by National Route 41, with no other settlement of note immediately adjacent.
