History
Matsugaya Station opened on 10 January 2000 with the Tachikawa-Kita to Tama-Center extension of the Tama Toshi Monorail Line. Unlike most stops on the line, where the elevated structure straddles a central road reservation, Matsugaya was built off-centre on a hillside slope to the west of the carriageway, so the concourse aligns directly with ground level on the west side and passengers can enter without using stairs or lifts. It is normally unattended, monitored by remote camera. Station numbering across the line in February 2018 assigned it TT02. The platforms serve the Kashima and Matsugaya districts of Tama New Town, which are entirely residential.

Notes
Because Matsugaya was built into a hillside instead of over a road, riders can walk straight from the street to the concourse without using stairs or a lift — an unusually flat experience for an elevated monorail station.
