History

Kamatori Station opened on 15 June 1952 as a Japanese National Railways station handling passengers only. Following installation of passing equipment, it was staffed from 21 November 1960. On 12 December 1974 the station was relocated when track was realigned for the double-tracking of the Kamatori–Soga section, and a new overhead station building was completed on 28 March 1986. With the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR East. Automatic ticket gates were installed on 22 July 1995, and the station became a Sotobō Line rapid-service stop with the 8 December 1998 timetable revision. Suica acceptance began on 18 November 2001, station operations were contracted out on 1 April 2019, and the staffed Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office closed on 31 July 2023.
