History

Harataima Station opened on 29 April 1931 as a stop on the privately operated Sagami Railway between Atsugi and Hashimoto — today's JR Sagami Line. The Sagami Railway was nationalised on 1 June 1944 and merged into the Japanese Government Railways. Freight handling ended in October 1962 and parcel handling in October 1979. With the dissolution and privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, Harataima passed to JR East. A new bridge-style station building replaced the original in 1991, and Suica IC gates began operating in November 2001. The ticket window closed on 4 March 2016.
