History

Shimoyamamura Station opened on 17 December 1926 on what is today the JR Central Iida Line in the city of Iida, Nagano Prefecture. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways, the station came under JR Central's control. It sits 124.7 km from the line's starting point at Toyohashi Station and consists of a single ground-level side platform serving one bi-directional track. There is no station building - only a small shelter built on top of the platform - and the station is unattended. The surrounding area is rural in character.
