History
Kunado Station opened on 17 December 1927 as part of the private Fuji-Minobu Railway extension between Minobu and Ichikawa-Daimon; while there were periods when station staff were on duty in the early years, postwar rationalisation led to outsourced management under Nihon Kōtsū Kankō and eventually full unstaffed operation. The line was leased to the Railway Ministry in 1938 and nationalised on 1 May 1941 as part of the Minobu Line. Freight handling ended in September 1972 and parcel handling in February 1984. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Central, becoming fully unstaffed again. The original wooden station building was demolished and a small waiting shelter, set toward the Ichinose end of the platform, was completed in March 1999.
