History

Mino-Sakamoto Station opened on 25 November 1917 as a Japanese National Railways general station on the Chūō Main Line between Nakatsugawa and Ōi (now Ena). Because Sakamoto Station already existed on the Hisatsu Line, the prefix Mino (after Mino Province) was added; the unusual writing "美乃" reflects the abbreviation already in local use at the time. Freight handling ended on 21 May 1961 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. The station passed to JR Central at JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 and gained TOICA support on 25 November 2006. A Gifu intermediate station of the Chūō Shinkansen maglev is planned immediately west of the existing facility.

Notes

The Chūō Shinkansen Gifu intermediate station is planned to be built immediately west of Mino-Sakamoto, making the latter the local-line transfer point for the maglev line.
