History

Matsuzaki Station opened on 15 March 1904 as a station on what is now the San'in Main Line. With the privatisation of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, the station came under the operation of JR West. From 2003 the outer track on the original island platform was removed, leaving the station effectively with two side platforms. A new station building was completed in July 2022.

Notes

Although the station was originally built with an island platform, since the 2003 removal of the outer track only the trackside platform 2 of the former island platform is used—and even then only for passing limited-express trains. Stopping trains in both directions use platform 1 on the side of the station building as a general rule, leaving the island platform essentially redundant.
