History

Wadamachi Station opened on 15 August 1952 as a station of the Sagami Railway. As a precursor, on 20 September 1930 Tokiwaen-shita Station had opened halfway between Hoshikawa and the future Wadamachi site at the same time as Tennōchō and Shin-Kawashima; it was suspended in June 1944 and effectively succeeded by Wadamachi at the present location in 1952. An overhead-concourse station building was completed on 14 April 1969. A renovation under the Sōtetsu Design Brand-Up Project began in 2016, and platform doors entered service on 28 July 2024. The station name comes from Wada (formerly Wadachō), the district to the north, whose place name in turn derives from the surname of the Kamakura-period warrior Wada Yoshimori.
