History

The station opened on 21 December 1902 as Ōi Station with the government railway's Tajimi - Nakatsugawa extension. It became part of the Chūō West Line in 1909 and was absorbed into the Chūō Main Line in 1911. The Akechi Line began operations from here on 24 May 1933. The station was renamed Ena on 1 November 1963, following the 1954 municipal merger that created Ena city. Carload freight ended in 1981, and the JNR-era Akechi Line was converted to the third-sector Akechi Railway on 16 November 1985. The station became part of JR Central on 1 April 1987. Automatic ticket gates were installed in 1995 and TOICA service began on 25 November 2006.

Notes

Two short-lived predecessors, the Iwamura Electric Tramway (closed 1935) and Kita-Ena Railway Ōi Line (closed 1934), once shared the station's forecourt before the area consolidated around the JR and Akechi platforms.
