History

Minami-Makigahara Station opened on 8 April 1976 with the inauguration of the Sagami Railway (Sotetsu) Izumino Line, a branch from Futamatagawa serving newly developed residential districts on Yokohama's western hillsides. The station became a rapid-service stop on 27 February 1999, and during a 2000–01 renovation an elevator was installed and the station building was rebuilt. From 30 November 2019, when through-running to JR lines began, it was added to the new commuter-express stopping pattern but bypassed by the simultaneously introduced commuter-limited-express. Platform-edge doors entered service on 25 December 2022. The station sits between Futamatagawa and Ryokuentoshi and carries station number SO31.
