History

Nagaura Station opened on 10 January 1947 on the Uchibō Line in what is now Sodegaura, Chiba Prefecture, after the then-mayor of Nagaura village petitioned occupation authorities for a stop. The platform shelter was extended in February 1987, and on 1 April 1987 the station passed from Japanese National Railways to JR East at privatisation. Some rapid services began to call from September 1987, with all rapids stopping from 16 October 2004. A new north-south free passage and a rebuilt station building entered service on 22–23 February 2014, and the station was placed under contract operation on 1 April 2014. Suica IC fares have been usable since 18 November 2001.
