History
Kannai Station opened on 9 May 1964 as a JNR station on the Negishi Line in Naka-ku, Yokohama, with through-running connections to the Keihin-Tōhoku Line. The Yokohama Municipal Subway began operating to the station from 4 September 1976. With the 1 April 1987 JNR privatization the JR portion passed to JR East. The JR station is elevated, with two opposed side platforms linked by underpasses to the building below; the Subway Blue Line station occupies the second and third basement levels north of the JR station. The subway has two island platforms serving three tracks — only platforms 2 and 4 are passenger-facing, platform 1 is unused because of the line's curvature and platform 3 is used only for stabling.
