History

Minami-Ōta Station opened on 1 April 1930 on the present-day Keikyū Main Line in Minami-ku, Yokohama. Originally laid out with two side platforms and only two tracks, the station was reconfigured on 13 December 1987 with the completion of central through tracks, allowing expresses to overtake local services in a Shinkansen-style four-track arrangement. Daytime passing of rapid limiteds was discontinued in September 2011 but reinstated on 21 October 2012 for Airport Express and rapid limited services. Keikyu introduced station numbering on 21 October 2010, assigning KK41. The name derives from a district that became 'South Ōta' in 1901 to avoid confusion with central Yokohama's Ōta-chō.
