History

Akechi Station opened on 21 August 1920 as Fushimiguchi Station (伏見口駅) on the original Tōnō Railway in what is now Hira-Kaito, Kani, Gifu Prefecture. The operator was transferred to Tōbi Railway on 24 September 1926, and Tōbi was merged into Meitetsu (Nagoya Railroad) on 1 March 1943. The connecting Yaotsu Line opened on 30 April 1930 and survived until its closure on 1 October 2001. Freight operations ended in fiscal 1961, and at the request of Kani Town the station was renamed Akechi on 1 April 1982. The station became unstaffed on 29 June 2008, and on 18 March 2023 track 3 was abolished, leaving a single line; ramp access replaced the former cross-platform footpath. It is station HM07 on the Meitetsu Hiromi Line.

Notes

Until the 2023 single-tracking, Akechi was the only crossing-loop station on the single-track section of the Meitetsu Hiromi Line; since the change, no train other than the one occupying the station can be on the Mitake side of the line at the same time, because the terminus at Mitake itself is also a single-track station.
