History

Yayoidai Station opened on 8 April 1976 with the inauguration of the Sagami Railway (Sotetsu) Izumino Line. The station name commemorates Yayoi-period pottery unearthed during the surrounding land's redevelopment. A complete renovation finished on 30 September 1998, and the station became a rapid-service stop on 27 February 1999. From 27 October 2013 a low-cost rising-bar platform-edge door system developed by Takamisawa Cybernetics was trialled for about one year on the down platform; the same equipment was later introduced at JR East's Haijima Station in March 2015. Permanent platform-edge doors entered service on 22 January 2023, and a sub-name referencing the International Goodwill General Hospital was added on 1 July 2023. The station carries number SO33.
