History
Iwane Station opened on November 20, 1941 as a stop on the Japanese Government Railways Bōsōnishi Line, in what is now the city of Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture. After World War II it passed to Japan National Railways. On July 15, 1972, the Bōsōnishi Line was renamed the Uchibō Line, and Iwane Station has been a stop on that line ever since. With the privatization of Japanese National Railways on April 1, 1987, the station came under East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It is located 27.5 kilometers from the line's starting point at Soga Station, has two opposed side platforms connected by a footbridge, and remains a staffed station.
